One of our themes is transformation and so it’s particularly satisfying to have opened a guerilla gallery in a space that was previously an office and a Pilates studio. The space is small and cosy, tucked away on the first floor of an old building on one of Canberra’s up-and-coming city streets.
There is a certain frisson about this place, knowing that it will cease to exist by the end of 2014 when the building is demolished to make way for smart glass-fronted shops and high-rise apartments. Right now the whole area is a melting pot of change, with small creative businesses mingled in with industrial lots and car hire companies; sidewalk cafes co-habiting with boutique gift shops, upmarket thrift stores and smash repairers. Gradually the streetscape is changing and as the urban transformation continues we will start to document some of the stories of the street and the region, through events.
Since we opened on June 5th it’s been exciting to see so many people coming through the space.
We do love some shameless self promotion too!
