Coming under scrutiny

Indian portrait

In wisdom gathered over time I have found that every experience is a form of exploration.

Ansel Adams

We found this inscrutable portrait at a church jumble sale. It now presides over a cosy corner of the Office that is dedicated to thinking, talking and daydreaming.

Often, when stuck, I glance up at the portrait and encounter its kindly gaze. The expression appears detached yet thoughtful, suggesting any ideas will receive a fair hearing no matter how wild they may be.

Which is lucky, since some of the ideas we’ve been coming up with lately are pretty wild!

Also, it’s useful having a benevolent elder statesman giving you that look. The one that says what you most need to hear at that moment: Nice idea, people…now get on with it!
